Wedgwood pottery – Blue Jasper Ware
ByWedgwood have made Blue Jasper pottery since the 1800s. Over its history is has changed sometimes having a solid blue colour “sprigged ” with with reliefs and at other times the blue is solid. There are also variations in the blue from a wonderful deep Royal Blue to a much paler almost baby blue. Antique pieces can be very valuable fetching several hundreds of pounds each whilst newer pieces of Wedgwood jasper can be found for less than £10.
The reliefs tend to have classical inspirations – I am in the process of cataloguing them and hope to add a list here soon. Do you havee any rare examples you could send in photos of to add here?
This Wedgwood Blue Jasper Ware comes in all sorts of forms: Vases, trays, lidded boxes, candlesticks thimbles and even table ware. Blue Jasper miniatures are especially popular with collectors.
Wedgwood has also made Jasper Ware in many other colours but the Blue endures as the most popular and the colour it is produced in today is known as “Wedgwood blue”.
When purchasing a piece of Wedgwood Jasper do take care to look beneath the pot. Not all Jasperware was made by Wedgwood and you need to see the impressed manufacturers trade mark to be sure who made it.
There is lots of Wedgwood Jasper to buy on antiquesavenue.co.uk . Here are a few examples as a preview:

Hello,
I have just found your Wedgwood for sale listings on line. I wonder if you have any Wedgwood urns for sale. There is a blue and white one on this page but it does not appear in your Wedgwood page listings.
Thank you,
Brian
Thanks for looking Brian, The urns are currently all sold – I will keep a look out for more but as you know these are quite rare
Anne
Anne, thank you for a lovely informative website.
This is a really cheeky question for the day before Christmas Eve but I wonder if you could please help? I am trying to find a price guide for a dark blue Jasperware Stilton Dome with classical reliefs and failing miserably – please can you give me any advice?
Many thanks, happy Christmas,
Jayne
sorry, me again (grin). I should have said this is stoneware and the backstamp of Wedgwood England” would imply 1891 – 1908.
Thank you
Jayne
Hi Jayne,
Nice of you to drop by. I would normally do a quick search on “Completed Items ” on eBay if I wanted a rough price guide.
I just did this and found one that has recently sold at £119.
Take a look for yourself if you search on:

Anne
Hi Anne, many thanks. I haven’t used eBay for a while and like a dumbo had forgotten to search on completed items. This item is very similar to the one I’m querying and the price guide is most helpful.
Thanks and happy holidays
Jayne
Hello,
Just found this great site. I have a very dark blue (cobalt maybe?) jasperware jar with lid. Beautiful leaf work on the lid. Grecian female figures around the jar. Jar has handles. The marks below say Wedgewood at the top. England at the bottom. And there are two other marks…an F and V. Can you tell me what I have? Thank you so much in advance. I’m not asking for an evalution. I would just like to know how to refer to this piece and have some idea of the production date. Thank you in advance. Jackie
Hi Jackie,
Happy to help if I can. Can you send me a .jpg photo of your jar? Is it anything like the shape of the one in the wedgwood photo I have attached here? Is the jasper solid colour or blue over white?
Best Wishes
Anne
Hi Anne
Perhaps you can help me. My aunt left me a darkish blue Wedgwood ‘milk’ jug.
It has some white relief in grasses/leaves, but no figures.
Underneath it is marked WEDGWOOD (in capitals) then the letter A.
On either side of the spout are two ferns, decorating spout is a seven line pattern.
Around rim there is a Greek style small pattern, and around the ‘balloon’ is the same pattern, with grasses/leaves sprouting from it.
I assume this is old Wedgwood. It probably belonged to my grandmother,
married in 1914. It is in good condition, no cracks. The white inside has a few small brownish marks.
Hope you can advise on it’s value really.
Many thanks
Adrienne
Hello,
Ive seen just like this before and they are very pretty. You didnt say how tall it is but the ones I have had a re about 8 inches high. When you turn it over is the underneath white ( jasper dip) or is it solid blue? I dont really do valuations and certainly would never value an item without seeing a photograph. Its safe to say your jug is collectable but has no huge value at this stage. If you love it I would hang on to it for the future. If you need to sell it then I suggest taking it to your local auction house – I am can only guess but it would probably pay for a night out.
HI IM TRYING TO DAT MY WEDGWOOD ITEM im not sure what it is but it reminds me of the pots you would put on a grave it has 13 holes in the lid on the top that i assume you would put single stem flowers i. it is the blue jasper ware with figures on the sides grape vine around the bottom and flowers around the top. the datings on the bottom are seperate wedgwood and made in england it also has the markings NB and what i thnik is a 5 on the other side
Hi Aimee,
Can you send me a photo in .jpg format and I will take a look. As a general guide if a pot says ” Made in England” it is after 1920.
Anne
I have found what looks like a blue wedgwood vase, in my loft which was a present from my grandma, 44 yrs ago. It has Wedgwood written on the bottom of it so it looks genuine. I was wondering how to get it valued, please can you help?
Sheena Martin
Hi Sheena,
The best way of getting a free valuation on any antique or vintage item is to take it to your local auciton house.
Anne
Many thanks Anne
Sheena
hi i have a jasper teapot, with the letter a,and 24, is that the date, regards.
Hi
It is possible that the number is the date code but I would to see the pot to be certain. That would be 1924 if it is the date
Anne
Hi everyone,
I have just bought a wedgwood blue jasper pot. The back stamp is “WEDGWOOD MADE IN ENGLAND”, and there is a number 8. What do you think about it? Fake? If anyone wants pictures, feel free to ask.
Alex
Hi Alexandre,
There is no reason to believe your pot is fake from the information you have given. It will be a 20th century piece. Enjoy it
Anne
Hello,
Does anyone know where I might sell a lovely blue jasperware piece of Wedgewood. 9″ Plate signed by Lord Wedgewood in 1995? And any idea of what price I should ask for?
