The Victorians loved to use flowers, gemstones and objects to symbolise sentimental meanings. They had rings set with multi coloured gemstones where the initial letter of each stone spelt a word. For Example Regard – Ruby, Emerald, Garnet, Amethyst, Ruby , Diamond.

One interesting symbol I come across occasionally is in three parts – the cross, the anchor and a heart. This stands for Faith, Hope and Charity ( or Love). The pictures show two examples where these three pieces are used together – to decorate a Victorian locket and as a set of three silver charms. Enjoy!
