Victorian Picture Tiles

Victorian picture tiles are a popular collecting field. These were often made by the best biggest names in tile production including Minton, Minton & Hollins, Copeland, Wedwood and Maw. The designers included John Moyr Smith, William Wise,Walter Crane,Thomas Allen and Kate Greenaway amongst others. The designs themselves were transfer printed onto the tiles and then glazed over. Many picture tiles were produced in seriese for example Mintons produced many series: Fables, Fairy Tales, Shakespeare &Idylls of the Kings amongst others.
