Northampton has a new auction

Posted by: | Comments (9)

I see that Northampton is to have a new auction following the recent withdrawal of Humberts to their Towcester base.  According to a leaflet pushed through my door today : Freehold St Auctions will be held in the Nene Centre, Freehold street. That’s the same place as the old Humberts and previously Harps auctions were held.

The first auction will be on Saturday May 9th at 10.oo and every fortnight after that. Viewing is from mid day till 8.00 on Friday and on the moringin  of the sale.

Well I will be popping along for a look at the viewing . I’m really not keep on Saturday auctions so my attendance at the actual event will be dependant on what I find at the viewing.  I will report back tomorrow and hopefully have a little information on their commission rates as well.

Royal Crown Derby have come up with a cunning plan to beat the recession. This company who have manufactured excellent quality porcelain since 1750 have decided to go even more upmarket with a dinner service costing £1 million.

The Heritage service is available in a variety of colours with a plate taking up to a week to complete. Prices range from £1,ooo for a plate to £15,000 for a tureen. The BBC have a piece on this which includes a video of one of the plates. all pieces are expected to be sold abroad .

Sorry, Royal Crown Derby but I dont think you will have my custom just yet – I think I need a new car more than a brand new £5000 teapot!

December free give away results

Posted by: | Comments Comments Off

Thank you to all of you who left comments on my December free give away for the Glass paperweight. I have decided to send this to Joe who wrote:

There’s real magic here. The upright flowers and the busy nature of the butterfly is proof encased in glass that even through the cold winds of December, the heralded signs of a bright Spring are ever-promisingd. Glass captures dreams and hopes, and we all look forward to the colors of a bright new season, as lovely purple crocuses peek from the last mud of winter.

Joe, Please do get in touch with me and let me know your address so that I can put your paperweight in the mail to you

Happy New Year

AntiquesAvenue 2008 round up / New Year resolutions 2009

Posted by: | Comments Comments Off

This led to me thinking about the changes AntiquesAvenue has gone through in 2008 and what I should plan for 2009.

2008 started off with the main move of AntiquesAvenue from eBay to AntiquesAvenue.co.uk  on-line shop. This was a bit of a speculative enterprise but fortunately has proved very popular with both collectors and unique gift buyers and now most of my best stock is offered through the shop. In September I started this blog with the intention of sharing with others the knowledge that I found so difficult to obtain when I started out to be an antiques dealer. I was delighted to find that Google has rounded off a successful year for me by awarding my AntiquesAvenue Antiques Blog a page rank of 3 this morning. Excellent after just a few  months almost daily blogging.

So with such change for me in 2008 I am wondering what is in store for AntiquesAvenue in 2009? Here are a couple of starters :

- Increase the rate at which I add information to my blog ( daily ?) . AntiquesAvenue is intended to develop  into a first class resource for antique and collectors . It would be great for other antique or collectables dealers wanted to join with me in this – please do contact me.

- I am going to add fresh stock to antiquesavenue.co.uk weekly and will bring you a round up of whats new here so check back often to have first pick.

- AntiquesAvenue New Year sale will start  week – details coming soon.

Happy New Year

There is a new section on my antiquesavenue.co.uk website shop. “Just in” highlights the most recently added items and the featured item changes each time you view another page on my site. These “just in” items are updated at least twice a week so do keep checking back.
