Vintage Jewellery News

Posted by: | Comments Comments Off

Here’s this months news update from AntiquesAvenue. As usual I have been busy sourcing fresh stocks of Vintage Jewellery for the shop. Regular readers of this blog will know I love going to real life auctions and have managed to get a couple of really great deals recently which means I can pass on the vintage jewellery to you at a far better price than you will find at your high street jewellers.

Gold Charms

On of the main additions to antiquesavenue.co.uk this month has been a large quantity of nine carat gold charms which have full English hallmarks and main date from the 1950s to 1970s.

Particularly worth a mention are some interesting Globe charms. Each globe charm is different, how about having three of them on a charm bracelet? Other interesting gold charms added include two different roulette wheels , two different golds fish charms and a gold penny farthing charm with moving wheels.

Vintage Jewellery

Ive a new section called Vintage Jewellery on antiquesavenue.co.uk. This has a few articles I hope you find interesting directly aimed at helping you choose and care for your antique jewellery and vintage jewellery. Also being developed is an A-Z of vintage jewellery terms, short explanations rather than the longer articles available on this blog. This A-Z is a work in progress and I will be adding several items a week.

Packaging

I’ve always tried to send out jewellery in a small card box which is suitable for storage or giving wrapping as a gift.  Some pieces have not been suitable for the boxes I have so now I am slightly changing my policy. All items of Jewellery will either be dispatched in the same card boxes as always or when more appropriate it will be bubble wrapped and then places inside a decorative organza gift bag.

Coming Soon

Over the next couple of weeks I have some special silver jewellery including silver gilt, silver and enamel and marcasite set silver jewellery. I have vintage brooches made from silver  including Scottish / Celtic design. Antique and vintage silver jewellery is proving very popular at the moment due to the high price of gold. As gold jewellery moves beyond the price range of most people they are choosing well made silver pieces instead. This applied to both antique and vintage silver jewellery. AntiquesAvenue intends to move its focus into quality silver jewellery in the future whilst still retaining a selection of top quality costume jewellery and smaller gold pieces.

Website changes

I’ve ordered a few more changes to the antiquesavenue.co.uk. This time I am trying to show you more of the products and less about the payment options. The right hand column is going and the lovely items I have for sale will take up the space. These changes should be ready by early November. I hope you like them

Reader and Customer Input

I love hearing from those of you who take the time to mail me or leave a comment on this blog. Comments about what you would like to see here or in the shop are always welcome. Recently however there have been a lot of other website owners trying to spam this web blog with links to their sites and effectively trying to take a free ride on the back of my hard work. Sorry but I’ve installed a program which will prevent this spamming of my blog. Would you believe that its stopping about 50 spam messages a day?

If you are the owner of a website related to antiques, vintage  or antique jewellery or with something of interest to the readers of this blog I am more than happy to publish a good article written by you on here. This article can have a link to your website as long as the article is a) original ( not published elsewhere on the interenet) b) at least 500 words long and c) relevant.

Happy Hunting

Autumn Fashions in Vintage Jewellery

Posted by: | Comments (1)

I’ve been taking a look at all the fashions, glamour and style for this Autumn. There seem to be a lot of Vintage Jewellery being worn again this year so we can happily dig though our Grandma’s jewellery boxes and be right in style.

Taking a look around there seem to be several themes we can choose. Apparently chandelier earrings are back (eeeek, these are so heavy and catch on your clothes so perhpas best kept for glitzy occasions?)

Pearls and Cameos.

Lace and creamy colours are bang up to the minute this season. What could be better for wearing with these materials than Cameos and Pearls.  Edwardian ladies worn lots of lace in creamy colours and they layered them with strands of pearls and the traditional shell cameo is just the right colour to tone well.

Red and Black

There’s lots of red and black jewellery about. So how about a red diamante brooch or some french jet glass beads. Or both? There are loads of options with red and black jewellery and you can either choose to wear one of the colours or both together. Here are some lovely old red glass beads from AntiquesAvenue, genuine vintage so added cachet for that too:

Chains

Lots of gold toned chains were big in the 1980s ( along with the hairdos if I remember rightly). Now these have been out of fashion for some time but they are now back. The good thing about this is vintage gold toned chains are cheap and abundant if you hunt around. I’ll be getting some soon for you to buy too. For years I haven’t bothered stocking these as no one wanted them , you will find this is the same with most vintage jewellery dealers – now is the time to buy before the prices creep up.

I hope you find this interesting – I’ll try a brief round up of vintage jewellery fashions each season from now on.

Happy Hunting

Vintage Jewellery News – update end June

Posted by: | Comments (2)

The latest Vintage Jewellery news update from AntiquesAvenue. I have been busy acquiring and adding some lovely fresh stock of vintage jewellery to antiquesavenue.co.uk web shop during June.

Take a look around at the excellent selection of vintage gold charms ( with more to come over the next week) and I have been lucky enough to acquire some more genuine lucite brooches which I believe are a great collectable for the future as well as very wearable right now.

Lucite Brooch

Lucite Brooch

In the antique Jewellery section there are some newly added pieces of Scottish hardstone pebble jewellery. This Jewellery was first popularised by Queen Victoria with her passion for all things from Scotland.  Scottish pebble or hardstone  jewellery is set with polished stone from the Scottish mountains and is often Celtic in design. I have quite a good selection of Scottish hardstone Brooches and a rather nice moss agate pendant.

Not exactly wearable jewellery but certainly as pretty and as intricate with high quality workmanship are miniature enamel boxes . The most desirable are made in England and I have found some special once by Crummels and Halcyon days

And a sneak preview of whats coming to antiquesavenue shop in early July: Some lovely miniature silver picture frames, Some amazing vintage silver jewellery by the best names in Scandinavian silver ( D Andersen, G Jensen and more) and an excellent fresh collection of antiuqe stick pins …………. watch this space.

Vintage Jewellerynews update from AntiquesAvenue:

Have you seen all the fresh in stock Vintage Jewellery which has been added to AntiquesAvenue.co.uk recently?

Vintage Silver Brooches

I love Scottish and Scandinavian silver and have been lucky enough to be able to add a few nice silver brooches made by some of the top designers from the past. Look for Iona silver and a wonderful Marius Hammer silver and enamel brooch.

Vintage Costume Brooches

Great news I have some genuine vintage lucite brooches back in stock, these are getting harder for me to find and the prices are going up so I think these are a great buy for the future – and so pretty too.

Vintage Necklaces

I am particularly pleased to be able to offer some vintage lamp work glass necklaces with birds and leaves. These are really quite rare nowadays

Vintage silver bracelets

High fashion nowadays back from the 1970s – silver bangle bracelets.  The ones available from antiquesavenue are genuine original items and in most cases fully hallmarked. These bangle bracelets are much chunkier and more substantial than the ones available from new nowadays.

Do keep checking back – lots more vintage jewellery being added on a regular basis.
