Vintage Charms, opening A charms
Posted by: | CommentsContinuing the A-Z of vintage charms we have lots to look at with the letter A.
Here are a few of my favourite opening charms beginning with the letter A:
Adam and Eve Apple charm
This Apple charm opens and inside you can see Adam and Eve. A cute silver charm made by Nuvo and dating from circa 1970s. This charm is in the shape of an apple. It opens and inside are Adam and Eve. The Nuvo makers logo is actually impressed inside the apple beneath Adam and Eve. This vintage charm measures about 1.5 cms wide
Vintage charm silver opening Asprins case
A nice vintage charm made of silver and in the shape of a case with the word ” Asprins” written on it. This is quite a rare charm and dates from circa 1960s / 1970s. It would be excellent to add to the charm bracelet of a Nurse, Doctor or other caring professional. This vintage charm measures about 2 cms high including the bail.
A cute vintage charm from circa 1970s made of silver in the shape of Aladdins lamp. This opens to find Genie asleep inside – genie is painted in blue enamels. This charm measures about 3 cms long

Vintage Jewellery occasions a-z, D is for
Posted by: | CommentsVintage Jewellery occasions a-z, D is for………….
Daughter, Driving Test, Divorce and Dances.
Vintage jewellery for your Daughter on any occasion. Girls like charms and charm bracelets, in silver or gold a charm bracelet is a perfect vintage jewellery gift as you can add to it over the coming years and you will never be short of a gift idea again. Charms do not have to be worn on a bracelet, you can put a charm on a chain around your neck or hang one from a handbag or key chain. How about a vintage charm on an ankle chain that would be quite original. Look out for vintage enameld charms like this ladybird which add colour too.

lady bird charm
Congratulations on passing your Driving Test. How about a charm or brooch in the shape of a car. Car shapes can also dangle from earrings.
Cheer up you friend who has just got divorced. Instead of just buying a vintage gift of jewellery why not go shopping for some instead. Vintage jewellery can be found at most antique fairs and a trip to one of the larger fairs makes a great day out. Look up your local fair in the “whats on ” section of your local paper or visit the antiquestradegazette website.
Vintage jewellery for Dances – take a look at the bridal and party section on www. antiquesavenue.co.uk for some excellent glitzy party pieces.
Vintage Jewellery A-Z, Christmas
Posted by: | CommentsVintage Jewellery A-Z, C is for Christmas, Christenings, Coronation and Children.
AntiquesAvenue’s continuing A-z of occasions and reasons to buy vintage Jewellery explores the letter C.
Christmas

Christmas earrings
As I have written previously there is a piece of vintage jewellery suitable for a Christmas present for everyone and I will come back to this again in December this year.
There is also vintage jewellery with a Christmas theme to collect. Brooches and pins in the shape of a Christmas tree, snowman earrings or farther Christmas hanging from a charm bracelet. The earrings in the picture above are in the shape of angels – how suitable for Christmas day.
Christenings, Children
Yes you can give vintage jewelry as presents for children and at christenings. Silver and gold without stones are both suitable and especially small pieces. Silver bangles are traditional christening presents for girls or how about a small silver purse? For a boy, how about a Vesta case, card case or a silver fob?
Coronation

coronation charm
Coronation jewellery souvenirs can be found from Queen Victoria onwards. I have not actually seen pieces from her coronation but the charm shown in the picture shows the coronation throne and was made to mark the coronation of King Edward VII. This silver charm depicts the coronation throne in Westminster Abbey and the charm has full silver hallmarks for 1901 the year in which Edward VII became king. The charm measures about 3 cms long . There are similar charms for the coronations throughout the 1900s.

Vintage Jewellery for Baby and to Mother on Birth of Baby.
Whilst Jewellery is not always the first gift we think of of giving to a baby the Victorians would often pin a name brooch on a baby or simply a silver brooch declaring “Baby ” like the one in this picture.

Baby Brooch
Vintage Jewellery for the Bride and Bridesmaid.
AntiquesAvenue offers a special range of vintage jewellery suitable for the ” Something Old” part of a brides outfit. This Bridal Jewellery is sparkling and very very pretty. You also have the added advantage of knowing that you are not wearing the same piece of jewellery as every other Bride this year. How wonderful would a bride look in these earrings?
Vintage glass pearl flower earrings:
Wonderful vintage earrings which would be excellent worn as wedding jewellery for the bride or bridesmaid. These are made of glass beads with a pearl finish and are wired on the the clip on type fittings. These earrings are vintage 1940s and measure a little under 3 cms long
