As usual Ive been so busy over the Christmas season that I haven’t been able to bring you the latest vintage jewellery news from AntiquesAvenue recently. Firstly and most importantly, a very big Thank You all for helping to make this the most successful Christmas season ever in my 10 years of trading on-line. I know many of you come back year after year for your Christmas jewellery gifts for yourself and you loved ones and are also recommending the site to your friends. Id like to take this opportunity to wish customers old and new a very Happy New Year. I’ll be searching out lots of special and unique pieces of jewellery for you throughout 2012 and hopefully blogging here regularly with lots of information, hints and a preview of my latest jewellery finds. Ive made this updating blog regularly one of my New Years resolutions !
Vintage Cameo Jewellery
Some of the most popular jewellery from AntiquesAvenue is set with cameos. Today id just like to show you a couple of piece Ive added this week. If you’d like to see more please do look in the Cameos section.
Cameo Brooch
A very nicely carved came brooch featuring a classical Goddess. This cameo has been hand carved from shell. The cameo is set into a gold frame stamped as 9ct and there is an attached safety chain. This brooch will date from the early 1900s and it measures about 3.5 cms long
A nice quality hardstone cameo ring carved with the profile of a classical lady. The cameo is set into rose gold which has full Chester hallmarks for 1913. Hard stone cameos are much rarer than shell cameos and are quite collectible. The head of this cameo ring measures about 1.2 cms up finger. This ring is UK finger size O, just over USA size 7.25.
The shank of this ring is a little off round but is still very wearable, the ring has been priced accordingly.

Silver Jewellery
Vintage silver jewellery is more popular now than ever. I am finding that 1970s silver is really sought after and am pleased to be able to bring you a few fresh pieces ever week. This weeks new additions include this lovely 1970s silver bangle and a silver charm bracelet from about the same time.

This years hot jewellery gifts
I am in an almost unique position to be able to tell you what jewellery gifts were hot this year. Here are this years top sellers
1. Vintage silver lockets , These were selling out almost as fast as I couple add them to the site. I will try and get a few more but I do know that one years hot gift may not be next years.
2. Bracelets. Gold bracelets and silver bagles. Bracelets are quite popular gifts as it is quite easy to get the size right
3. Cameos. All my pretty lady cameo brooches sold out early this year. I think these were last years no 1 favourite so perhaps slipping a little in popularity
4. Gold rings. Mainly men buying these for their lady loves and yes many were last minute purchases.
5. Earrings. Gemstone set earrings making a comeback? More popular this year than they have been recently
6. Brooches . A perennial favourite and the easiest jewellery to buy as a gift as one size usually fits all.

Always popular Ive been looking out for vintage lockets to add to the site for you. This one is particularly pretty enameled in blue and with violets decorating it.
An exceptionally pretty silver and enamel locket dating from the early 1900a and decorated with engine turned enamel and with violets painted in the enamel on one side. This locket opens and inside are spaces for your own photos.
This vintage locket is not hallmarked but believed to be made of silver, it measures about3 cms long. The enamel is in really excellent condition with the locket opening and closing without problem. A really special piece of vintage jewellery

Vintage Pendants and charms:
This pendant dates from the early 1900s, it is set with real turquoise chips on both sides and is heart shaped.
A wonderful piece of vintage jewellery. This pendant is heart shaped and set with turquoise chips into a black background. The pattern is the same on both sides of the pendant. This heart pendant will date from the earlier 1900s when this type of turquoise set jewellery was popular.
The edge of the heart is lined with silver tone metal. The heart measures about 2.5 cms long and is in excellent condition
This pendant can also be attached to a bracelet and worn as a charm. Other charms added this week include a wonderful chunky silver charm bracelet with lots of opening silver charms.

Amber necklace : one type of vintage jewellery that I can never get enough of is vintage amber necklaces. This week I have a super one to offer you:
This vintage amber necklace is dating from circa 1920s. The necklace has a large central bead and graduates to slightly smaller beads at the back.
The central bead measures about 2.2 cms long and the smallest at the clasp measure about 1.9 cms long. This vintage amber necklace measures about 60 cms long and fastens with a barrel clasp

Vintage Rings: Ive added citrine rings and other vintage cocktail rings to the site this week. The picture shows a lovely topaz cocktail ring. Also Ive changed the website a bit so that vitnage engagement ring and vitnage silver rings have their own sections. Hopefully this will help you find your way about the ring section more easily.

Posted by: | CommentsGreat news for all you cameo jewellery lovers, Ive managed to obtain a few more vintage rings set with cameos. I know there are several of you watching my shop waiting for me to add them and I promised to update you here.
Care of cameo rings
You need to take special care of cameo rings especially if they are made of shell. Cameos are delicately carved and shells are quite soft. wearing a cameos ring is probably best kept for special occasions. Wearing a cameo ring everyday will ruin it. Either the detail will wear away or the shell will crack and discolour. Love your cameo ring and keep it for best.
If you Cameo ring does get grubby you will need to know what the cameo is made of and treat the ring according to the material the cameo is made from rather than the metal of the ring. The metal will be more resilient than the cameo.
For a shell cameo you can use a drop of commercial pearl cleaner and follow the instructions on the jar. A drop of soft liquid soap such as wool wash in lukewarm water may well do the job. Use a soft brush, rinse and pat dry.

Butterfly Bracelet
Dear Readers,
I know you all love to get a first look at the fresh vintage jewllery stock I add into the website but there are so many its often difficult to show them all. Yes, I really do try and add 40 or 50 pieces of jewellery a week. Here are 2 of the vintage brooches I’ve added today and a look at some of the vintage butterfly jewellery I have available as well.
