I’m so excited, I’ve just seen the future design for www.antiquesavenue.co.uk and its beautiful. AntiquesAvenue has grown so that I can carry on doing everything myself and I decided that the website design was one thing I could hand over. The results couldn’t have been better.  It wont be live until sometime in August but in the meantime here is what you can expect when you visit my shop in the future.

These should make shopping easier for you as well as making your antique jewellery and vintage jewellery buying a little more colourful. I’m going to run a special discount on launch day so do check back here for the details.

Vintage Jewellery Update

Posted by: Anne | Comments (0)

The latest Vintage Jewellery news update from AntiquesAvenue.co.uk for the middle of July.

Summer is here and I cant believe how busy the shop is. A big THANK YOU to all my lovely customers . Selling lots of Antique Jewellery and Vintage Jewellery means that I am able to obtain a much wider choice for you and continue to offer great value including free postage world wide. Remember as well your Jewellery comes either in a box or bag (Occasionally both) . I suggest that you store your piece in the box or bag I post your jewel in . This will prevent wear from other pieces in your jewel box.

Antique Brooch

 Fresh Stocks of Vintage Jewellery

A usual I have been busy adding lots more original vintage jewellery to the shop. Today I have been adding bracelets and antique brooches. There is a superb antique rose cut diamond necklace and plenty of costume jewellery for collectors .

I’m adding about 50 items a week at the moment and I suggest that you check back regularly . Recently I have had a couple of special pieces sell within less than a day of putting them on the site.

New Website Design

Exciting for me, by the end of August AntiquesAvenue.co.uk will have a new professional website and logo. For the past few years I’ve been struggling with this myself and have decided that its time to hand this work over to the professionals giving me more time to concentrate on the antique and vintage jewellery . Hopefully the site will be more attractive easier to use for you too.

Please dont be surprised if you come back in a few weeks and the look of the site is changed. I will have at least one special offer to coincide with the launch new look shop and will give details of this and the exact launch date next month.

In the mean time I am re-organising the categories ready for the new design. You can now find all Brooches in a Brooches Section, Bracelets in a Bracelets section, Rings in a ring Section without having to visit other parts of the shop. All men’s Jewellery is now in one area with tick pins, Lapel Pins, Albert’s , Albertina’s, Fobs and Cuff links under the Men’s Jewellery Section.

A polite request

As regular readers know I am happy to take a quick look at photos of your jewellery and offer an opinion on it if possible. I do not charge for this service. Please however I would really appreciate it if you:

i) Please contact me either by e.mail or leave a comment here on this blog for such help – I will get back to you as soon as I can and certainly within two or three days. I cant help over the phone a I need to see a photo.

ii) Do not ask me to value your item, valuations is a specialist skill and takes a lot of time to do properly. After all imagine if I give out a free valuation and get it wrong by a considerable amount. This could affect you badly and I dont want that responsibility. For a valuation I suggest you either contact your local auction house or one of the paid for valuation services on the Internet.

iii) Have good quality .jpg photographs of items you wish me to take a look at.

iv) If a piece has UK hallmarks you can look these up for yourself either on the Internet or from a Book such as Bradburys book of Hallmarks.

V) Sorry but I do not wish to buy jewels. Buying privately is not something I am comfortable with as I have to verify identities to ensure that pieces are not stolen and I have to add quite a large % to the price I pay in order to cover costs. You could try selling on eBay or taking your piece to your local auciton house who will sell jewellery for you.

AntiquesAvenue Blog

Still working through my A-Z of Jewellery Materials and have just about exhausted the letter G. coming over the next few weeks antique jewellery materials beginning with the letter H: Hair and Hematite. Perhaps a few more will spring to mind?

You’ve probably noticed I’ve a new picture banner at the top of the page, I think it adds a bit of colour and shows the sort of thing this blog is about.

I’m starting to put together a series of articles on how to run your own antiques business drawing on my experiences of giving up a secure career to follow my dream. This should have a few useful insights for anyone wanting to move into selling antiques, Vintage or Reto items. Many of the basics are the same if you choose to be a general antiques dealer or specialise in one aspect of the trade such as Antique Jewellery. Over the past 20 years I’ve tried most ways to buy and sell antiques and vintage and I’m going to share my knowledge here so pop back soon.

Happy Hunting

Its several weeks since I’ve updated my Vintage Jewellery news from AntiquesAvenue. AS usual I have been very busy buying antique and vintage jewellery and adding it all into my shop, here are some of the highlights

Vintage Glass Necklaces

I have added lots of genuine vintage glass necklaces to the site mainly from circa 1920 to circa 1950s. This is from a lifetimes collection I have recently purchased and will be adding more during the rest of this week and next.

Collections and Lots

For the first time I now have a few wholesale lots or collections of vintage costume jewellery available and will be adding more if these prove successful. If you are starting a vintage jewellery business or just like to sell a few bits on eBay you will find these are quite a bargain.

Changes to AntiqueAvenue.co.uk

My shop continues to evolve and i suspect that it will never be finished. New this month are sections for Designer Jewellery and Pendants to separate them from true necklaces.. Currently in the designer section has mainly name Scandinavian Silver jewellery however I am planning to add a range of UK Jewellery designers too.

World Cup Special Discount

Are England still in the world cup? I’m not a football fan and I know that a lot of my readers would prefer to shop for vintage jewellery than to watch it on TV. If England do reach the world cup final you can shop at www.antiquesavenue.co.uk where I will be offering a massive 20% discount for the duration of the final match.

AntiquesAvenue blog.

Are you knowledgeable about an aspect of antiques, vintage or collectables and can you write? I am looking for someone to help out with this blog and to develop its commercial potential.  The idea is profit share and no initial investment of capital is required. The ideal person will have some knowledge of blogging or net publishing as well as a drive to write about antiques or collecting related areas. Is this you? If so them please do get in touch. This could be one person or possibly two or three to work on the project as I have no fixed ideas at present.

If you are wondering if this blog could be worth your effort then please do Google Antiques Blog where you will find antiquesavenue.com right at the very top.

Coming Soon

I’m hoping to improve the navigation on antiquesavenue.co.uk by moving to shopping cart and links to some of my information pages to the top and have already changed the header to make space.

Next week sees me adding loads more vintage glass necklaces

Happy Hunting ~ Anne x

Here’s the Vintage Jewellery news for Mid May from AntiquesAvenue.co.uk

Vintage Jewellery

As always I have been busy buying  vintage jewellery , photographing it and adding the lovely jewels to my shop for you to see. Recent additions include  Antique Cameo Jewellery, Lots of vintage rings and some nice vintage glass necklaces.

Here are a few of the more special pieces for you to see:

Vintage cherry amber Bakelite bead necklace art deco

Art deco necklace

Art deco necklace

Nice! A vintage art deco cherry amber Bakelite necklace. This is one of the sought after classic pieces of vintage jewellery. This necklace is made out of Bakelite beads in a cherry amber colour. The largest bead measures about 2.3 cms long and the necklace measures 44 cms long. It weighs about 38 grams

Antique ring garnet flower

Antique ring

Antique ring

A lovely dainty antique ring which I suspect dates back to the Georgian era. This ring is set with 5 garnets in a flower pattern hand the gemstones have a closed back setting. The yellow metal ring is not hallmarked but tests as about 9 carat gold. This antique ring is finger size UK I.5, USA 4.75. The head of the flower measures about 1 cm wide

Vintage glass necklace red

Vintage glass necklace

Vintage glass necklace

A lovely red glass and glass pearl necklace from circa 1940s / 1950s. These glass beads are strung on a metal chain as was quite usual for necklaces from this time. This necklace fastens with a box shaped clasp  set with a central red glass stone. The largest bead at the front measures about 13 mm diameter and the necklace measures about 46 cms long.

There are some minor signs of age to this necklace ( a little wear to the pearl finish) and so I am offering this necklace at a bargain price

AntiquesAvenue.co.uk Changes

Ive been fiddling with the categories a bit hoping that you will be able to find the jewellery a bit more easily. The Vintage jewellery category has gone as it was duplicating other areas. I have renamed vintage costume necklaces as  glass necklaces . Other vintage necklaces will just be in the vintage costume jewellery section,

There are also now more pieces on the front page

Blog Changes

All my blogs have been concentrated here – I’ve added pages for Brooches, charms and rings so you can easily access the posts in one category . I’m continuing the series I was writing on my vintage brooch and vintage ring blogs here on AntiquesAvenue.com

Give Away

Ive a give away running for the next few weeks – leave a comment on the Cameo pendant give away thread and the best ( in my opinion) will be set a lovely vintage cameo pendant for free.

Coming soon

Whats in  store for the next few weeks? Lots more vintage glass necklaces, I purchased someones life time collection and there are literally hundreds for me to add gradually over the coming weeks. This week and next some more cameo Jewellery, mainly brooches with some pendants. I also have a small selection of antique Jewellery to add, Lavaliere pendants and brooches which are always popular

That’s it for now – Enjoy, Anne

Art Deco Ring

Art Deco Ring

A lovely piece of original vintage jewellery. Here is an art deco cocktail ring which will date from circa 1920s to 1940s and has a design typical of the era it was made in. This ring is set with cornflower blue and crystal clear gemstones which test as Sapphires and are most likely lab created. The head of this vintage cocktail ring measures about 1.5 cms long and this is UK ring size R.5, USA size 9. There are quite a few more genuine pieces of art deco jewellery including rings on the website at the moment so please do take a look about.

Antique Locket

Antique Locket

An excellent Victorian locket with black enamel on both sides. This locket is made of heavy gold filled which was popular way of making jewellery in the Victorian era. This is a layer of gold over a metal core. This locket opens and inside are two glass covered compartments for your own photos or a small memento. This locket measures about 3 cms long plus the bail.

This locket is in excellent condition but is a little stiff to open

The Front Page Feature for the end of April is Vintage Rings showing a lovely display of all the genuine vintage rings available from AntiquesAvenue.co.uk.
